The Trimbakeshwar Temple sits at the foot of the Brahmagiri Hills, in the small town of Trimbak in the Nashik district of Maharashtra. This is not just another Shiva temple. This is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. But Trimbakeshwar is different from the others. The lingam here is not a single stone. It is a cavity containing three small lingams representing Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. The silver crown with the three faces covers them. The three gods are worshipped together. That is the uniqueness of this place. The temple is also the source of the Godavari River. The river begins at Kushavarta Kund, a sacred tank just outside the temple. Devotees take a dip here before entering the sanctum. The belief is that the water washes away sins.
The current temple structure was built in 1755 by Peshwa Balaji Bajirao. The architecture is Nagara style, with black stone carvings that have weathered centuries. The temple is not large. Daily Darshan and Aarti Timings for 2026
The temple opens at 5:30 AM every day. The first aarti is Kakad Aarti at 5:30 AM. The temple is dark. The lamps are lit. The chant is soft. The morning darshan runs from 5:30 AM to 12:30 PM. The early hours, between 5:30 AM and 8:00 AM, are the best. The crowd is light. The air is cool.
The temple then closes for an afternoon break from 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM. During these four hours, the sanctum remains closed. The priests perform internal rituals. Do not come during these hours expecting darshan.
The evening darshan runs from 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM. The Dhoop Aarti is at 6:00 PM. The final Shej Aarti is at 9:00 PM, and the temple closes at 9:00 PM.
Abhishekam, the ritual bathing of the lingam, happens every morning from 7:00 AM to 8:30 AM. This is the most auspicious time for worship. Only male devotees who have booked the ritual are allowed inside the inner sanctum during this time. Women can view from outside.
VIP Darshan and Online Booking
The temple offers a VIP Darshan pass. The price is ₹200 per person. VIP Darshan is available from 5:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the morning and from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the evening. The timings for VIP Darshan are slightly earlier and later than regular darshan. The queue for VIP Darshan is separate. The waiting time is fifteen to thirty minutes. On regular days, the general queue wait is one to two hours. On festivals, the general queue can be four to six hours. The VIP queue wait on festivals is one to two hours.
VIP Darshan tickets must be booked online. Visit the official website. Create an account or log in. Select the VIP Darshan option. Choose your date and time slot. Enter the details of each devotee, exactly as they appear on your ID proof. Complete the payment. After successful booking, you will receive a confirmation and an e ticket. Download it. Take a printout and also save a PDF on your phone.
Offline tickets are available at the temple counter, but the number is limited. On weekends and festivals, offline tickets sell out by 8:00 AM. Online booking is strongly recommended.
General darshan is free. No ticket is required. You walk in, join the queue, and wait.
Poojas and Rituals
The temple is famous for specific poojas. Kaalsarpa Pooja is performed for those suffering from Kaal Sarpa Dosha in their horoscope. The devotee takes a bath in Kushavarta Kund, asks forgiveness for sins, and offers donations of sesame, ghee, and milk. The ritual is believed to remove obstacles.
Narayan Nagbali Pooja is unique to Trimbakeshwar. This three day ritual removes ancestral curses, known as Pitru Dosha. It also seeks forgiveness for killing a snake. The priest creates an artificial body of wheat flour and performs rites for the dead. The mantras free the souls. The pooja is performed only here.
Tripindi Shraddha Pooja is for departed souls who are angry or unsettled. It is performed for those facing hurdles in childbirth, bad luck, or Gau Hatya dosha. Mahamrityunjaya Pooja is for long life and health. Rudrabhishek is performed with Panchamrit, milk, ghee, honey, curd, and sugar, accompanied by the chanting of mantras.
These poojas require advance booking. Contact the temple office or authorized priests. Do not fall for touts outside the temple.

The Golden Crown
Every day, from 4:30 PM to 5:00 PM, a golden crown is placed over the three lingams. The crown is studded with diamonds and rubies. It is believed to have belonged to the Pandavas and was donated to the temple by the Peshwas. Watching the crown being placed is a special experience. The evening light catches the gems. By road, the temple is well connected to Nashik city. Buses run regularly. Taxis are available. The drive from Nashik city takes about forty minutes.
Kushavarta Kund is right next to the temple. The Godavari River begins here. Take a dip. The water is cold. The belief is old.
Best Time to Visit
The best months are October through February. The weather is pleasant. The summer heat of Maharashtra is absent. The mornings are cool. The evenings are comfortable.
The best days are weekdays, Tuesday through Thursday. Weekends are crowded. Monday is the most crowded day of the week because it is dedicated to Shiva. The Shravan month, July to August, is peak season. Every Monday in Shravan is packed. If you want a peaceful darshan, avoid Shravan. If you want to experience the temple at its most vibrant, come during Shravan, but book your VIP pass well in advance.
Dress Code and Rules
Modest clothing is expected. Men should wear dhoti kurta or full length trousers with a shirt. Women should wear saree or salwar kameez. Shorts, sleeveless tops, and western casuals are not appropriate.
Leather items, belts, wallets, and bags are not allowed inside. Remove your footwear before entering. Mobile phones are allowed, but photography inside the sanctum is strictly prohibited. Maintain silence. Do not push. Follow the queue.
