The Ernakulathappan Temple sits in the heart of Kochi, near the Durbar Hall Ground, not far from the Marine Drive promenade. The city is loud. The traffic is dense. But the temple is not loud. The walls are old. The stone is dark. The deity is Lord Shiva, worshipped as Ernakulathappan, the Lord of Ernakulam. The lingam is Swayambhoo, self manifested, not carved by human hands. Daily Darshan and Pooja Timings for 2026
The temple opens at 3:30 AM every day. The first ritual is Nadathurakkal and Nirmalyam at 3:30 AM. The doors open. The flowers from the previous day are seen. Abhishekam is from 4:00 AM to 4:45 AM. The lingam is bathed. Shankh Abhishekam is at 5:15 AM. Amusha Pooja is at 5:45 AM.
Ethirtha Pooja is at 6:15 AM. Ethirtha Sheeveli is at 6:30 AM. Jaladhara is at 7:00 AM. Pantheeradi Pooja is from 7:30 AM to 8:15 AM. Uchcha Pooja and Sheeveli are from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM.
The temple then closes from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. During these five hours, the sanctum remains closed. The priests perform internal rituals. Do not come during these hours expecting darshan.
The evening Nadathurakkal is at 4:00 PM. Deeparadhana is at 6:30 PM. Athaazha Pooja and Sheeveli are from 7:15 PM to 8:00 PM. The temple closes at 8:00 PM.
On Mondays, on Pradosham days, and on festival days, the timings may be extended. The crowd is larger.

Vazhipadu are ritual offerings. Abhishekam, Pushpanjali, Archana, and lamp offerings are the most common. Online booking is available through the official website. Visit the portal. Click on Vazhipadu Booking. Select the offering. Enter the devotee’s name, nakshatra if required, and preferred date. Complete the payment. You will receive a confirmation via SMS and email.
During Maha Shivaratri and the annual Utsavam, book at least two weeks in advance. The slots fill up.
Dress Code for 2026
The dress code is strict. Men must wear a mundu or dhoti. An upper cloth or shawl is required. Shirts are not allowed in the inner sanctum. Women must wear a saree, salwar kameez, or long skirt with a blouse. Jeans, shorts, sleeveless tops, and western outfits are not allowed.
